Who: Lonnie Heller is known throughout the world as the legendary pioneer graffiti artist 'PISTOL'. From his early years in the early seventies, Pistol revolutionized the genre with the first ever 3-D subway lettering. He has been featured in galleries and museums in New York, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Paris. Most recently he was featured in The Cartier Foundation Museum in Paris on the history of graffiti as well as a one man show last year at Norwood in New York City.
Charlotta Janssen’s body of work re-imagines discarded and archival photographs of poor and working class Americans taken before, during and after the Great Depression. While at once cautionary, her images attempt to celebrate both the individual dignity and group solidarity of her subjects. Her last show 'Freedom Riders & Bus Boycotters' in 2010 was reviewed in the New Yorker and sold out. Her work and bio may be viewed at www.charlottajanssen.com.
Mick Cantarella is a fine arts portrait photographer with an edgy eye and a flare for the dramatic. His images have been described as “sexy” and “unexpected”. Mick Cantarella’s work and bio may be viewed at www.mickphoto.com
Donald McKenzie has made the decision as a photographer to use only his cell phone as his main ax, and he has quickly mastered this new genre. What Mr. McKenzie looses in megapixels, he gains in raw, honest spontaneous results.
What: Artwork on display and for sale.
Location: The Lounge is a private event space on the historic Bowery. It is next door to, and associated with, Bowery Poetry Club and Beef.
